Comment: I have 25 OAK trees that have broken limbs from last storm. The reach is high enough to get to most limbs. Little motor starts easily. Very satisfied all around. The price was very good compared to the high priced models.Delivery was very swift and easy. warning in instruction manual, for occassional use only, very interesting.

Comment: Bought this item about 6 weeks ago & have used chainsaw attachment numerous times already due to storm damage/cleanup. It actually works very well esp. for its size/power. I easily trimmed 6-7 inch branches as high as 12-1/2 feet from ground. Helped my neighbor cut broken/dead limbs for about 3/hrs straight and had no problems at all. Even after 8 hrs. use the chain needed no adjustment. It seems to use chain oil & gas sparingly as it is a long time between fill-ups. You need to make the proper pre-cuts, as with any chainsaw, to ensure chain does not bind in branches as another reviewer has advised.
It does take several pulls to start when cold & cuts out a couple times when first started...once warm there is no problem. Likely needs carb/fuel adjustment that I have just not taken time to make since once I start it, I tend to use it a long time. Have also used the string cutter attachment 3 times which works great. Handling the unit as a string cutter/trimmer is very easy. However, when using in chain (pole) saw mode it is somewhat heavy on your arms esp. when cutting very high. You need to have some arm strength/stamina to use for any length of time.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. The price is great & was actually lower than Lowes. Additionally, the Poulan unit sold at Lowes is somewhat less powerful (only 25cc vs. 31cc for this unit) and also does NOT include the string trimmer. I would highly recommend esp. if you have alot of trees and honeysuckle like I do. It is a life-saver on the honeysuckle trimming/clearing.
I just bought the edger attachment but have not had time to use it. It is great to have one unit that does all three tasks. I have sold my other separate edger and string trimmer tools which made this purchase even more economical. I would actually give this product a 4.5 stars if posssible. The 1/2 star deduction would be for the starting problem.

Summary: Poulan Pole Trimmer
Comment: The Poulan Pole trimmer was delivered on time. After unpacking and assembling the trimmer I found that it would not run at full RPM. I called the Poulan 800 number and was given the location of a Poulan service center in my area. I took the trimmer to the service center and was advised that they would not service the trimmer because Poulan would not reimburse than for their service. How nice!! After talking with the customer service rep. they sold me the tool to adjust the RPM on the trimmer.

Comment: (Helpful? Not? Please vote, so I know someone is reading these :^) First of all, this is *not* a professional grade tool. It is neither as powerful nor as rugged as the truly industrial-strength brands. It's basically a Poulan Weedeater (think Wal-Mart) with a saw attachment (think Lowes/HD). Professional grade tools come from Outdoor Power and your local saw shop or your local mower shop. This is for you and me to use a few times per year, so's we don't fall off a ladder with our regular chain saws, not for tree-trimmers who would use it every day.
Secondly, you MUST keep your saw sharp, and you MUST know how to execute cuts to keep from binding your saw. It's this simple. No amount of complaining or money spent on more expensive models will save you from yourself. For this, I am very sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Now, here's the good news ... there are websites out there that will show you the way to make the most common cuts. How to under cut first, where to watch the limb/tree to know to retract *before* you're in a bind. Secondly, Oregon Saws offers a free document on their website on how to sharpen a chain saw.
This little guy can neither be set up too "hungry" nor can you let it get too dull, and expect any sort of good results. This tool is meant for a very specific job, and not really anything else. If you're using it to make even small firewood, you're testing it's limits, though, I'm confident I could make a little firewood with it if I had to. It would be slow-going compared to my traditional saws. Likewise, blazing or limbing or pruning trees with my traditional chainsaws is no fun when compared to the extended reach of this little guy. There's a tool for every job, and most importantly, there's a way to properly use, service and maintain every tool. It's not rocket ... uh ... surgery ... or anything, but it will take about 30 minutes of your "hobby-time" to read up on what it takes to make a saw cut, and then confidently execute a cut well. There is nothing wrong with this tool ... much like there is nothing wrong with my golf clubs ... :-)
